St. Patrick’s Day is coming up and, although many of us have been vaccinated and Texas is reopening, it is crucial to continue to exercise safety precautions to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Whether you wish to celebrate at home or out on the town, we have some tips for how you can stay safe while celebrating St. Patrick’s Day amidst the reopening of the state.

Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day Safely

Just because Texas is opening back up does not mean you have to celebrate this day drinking green beer in a bar. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued some guidelines for how everyone can safely enjoy this 390-year-old tradition.

Here are the CDC’s guidelines:

  • Arrange a virtual celebration on Zoom or other video chatting service with your friends and family.
  • Host a celebration outdoors where you and your guests can remain 6-feet away from one another and, when distance is not possible, wear a mask.
  • Celebrate the holiday by decorating your home in St. Patrick’s Day colors and symbolism.

Additionally, the CDC stated that celebrating with others is safer outdoors, so if you choose to go to a restaurant or bar to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, opt for outdoor seating. Although masks are no longer required, wearing one is still a wise safety precaution to take while you are out with others who are not in your bubble, so try to keep one on unless you are eating or drinking.

At the start of the pandemic, many of us paid attention to personal hygiene. Frequently washing your hands with soap and water is a good practice to maintain not only during this pandemic, but in the future as well. If you plan on going out, be sure to also carry hand sanitizer with you.

The past year was difficult for many of us to navigate and, though Texas is reopening, it is still important to be cautious even during this festive occasion.
